Get to Know Dr. Wilkes

Dr. Wilkes was born in Boston, MA, but raised in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Wilkes joined Retina Physicians & Surgeons (now CVP Dayton) in 2018 after practicing medicine for several years in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Wilkes is the Medical Director of Dayton Eye Surgery Center.

He is a graduate of Hampton University, followed by eight years in Richmond, VA for both medical school and ophthalmology residency. His training ultimately led him to vitreoretinal surgical training at Cincinnati Eye Institute/University of Cincinnati.

Dr. Wilkes followed in the footsteps of his parents, both of whom were practicing ophthalmologists for decades: Dr. Jettie Burnett (Cornea), and the late Dr. Shelby Wilkes (Retina).

The Wilkes family includes his wife, Emily, two children Malcolm and Emma Jean, and two rescue boxer pups, Nala and Cassius. In his spare time, Dr. Wilkes enjoys reading, cooking, woodworking, and exercising.
